Salary – Full Time – Non-exempt
Salary Range $54,000 -58,000*

The Director of Walton Initiatives is a Brand Ambassador and Facilitator for Walton Options for Independent Living (WOIL), Walton Foundation for Independence (WFI), and the philosophy of Independent Living. Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing events, and resource development projects with a major focus related to adaptive sports, camps, and inclusive art. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, they will implement and develop projects in a manner that supports and guides the organizations’ mission as defined by the Board of Directors. The role may engage with Board of Directors on resource and program development endeavors and community partners.

General Duties:

  • Leading and Living the Values and Vision – Will champion inclusion by seeking to understand and take action that respects the principles of Independent Living philosophy. Advocate the benefits and value of diversity to others, challenge exclusionary practices, examine and confront their own biases and behaviors, and approach the work with intent to understand and support. Embrace the principle of “Nothing about us without us” which recognizes that people with lived experience know what is best for them and are valuable members of the community. Responsibility includes supporting communication efforts, advocating within the community, capacity building, creating awareness, and transferring knowledge.
  • Serves on the leadership team with responsibility for the organizations’ development and program objectives including building capacity specifically around adaptive sports, inclusive arts, and camps.
  • Strategic Planning – Participates and helps establish organizational priorities for 1-, 3- and 5-year plans for the organizations to include goals and outcomes expected, and a broader 10-year vision.
  • Works with leadership to formulate fund goals and outreach projects to ensure Walton can successfully fulfill its mission into the future and support the programs implemented by WOIL and WFI.
  • Presents information to the community including presentations to civic organizations, elected officials, and partners.
  • Provides reports to Directors on the progress of goals and annual plans and supports the Executive Director with reports to the Board regarding projects and fund development.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Director and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary to make informed decisions or recommendations to the Board.
  • Contributes to developing resources sufficient to ensure the organizations’ financial health, including data to support grants and other fund development, especially as it relates to adaptive sports, inclusive arts, and camps.
  • Utilizes approved imaging, branding, and marketing materials to enhance Walton Options’ image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic, and private organizations.
  • Provides current and up-to-date information for the outreach of the organization to promote events via the website and social media options in conjunction with Development and Communications staff
  • Ensures information for publication on social media and websites is provided timely and in compliance with the WOIL Branding Guide.
  • Dresses and interacts professionally in keeping with the organizations’ standards.
  • Completes data that supports the compliance of federal, state, and private awards including timely documentation of efforts in the data management program, reports to funders, and other documents required by the fund source.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director that support the mission of the organizations.

Adaptive Sports – Tasks as it relates to General Duties

  • Building Relationships – Build meaningful relationships within the community in support of increased adaptive sport participation including competition training and events. Points of responsibility may include recruitment of individuals with a disability for adaptive sport programs, creating awareness of opportunities, helping to remove barriers to adaptive sport participation, working with the disability community to promote and showcase a variety of different, cross-disability sport opportunities, working with adaptive sport organizations to market adaptive sport opportunities to the community and assist those interested in engaging in competitive sports as an individual or team member. Coordination to support and grow partner events and opportunities is included.
  • Directing Change – Will encourage and support the organization and others to seek opportunities for different and innovative approaches to addressing barriers and opportunities. This includes assisting partners in developing options to host and train athletes for competitions. Points of responsibility may include resource development, strategic planning, assessment, implementation of policy, and best practices.
  • Facilitate Recruitment and Participation – Understand the needs and concerns of participants with disabilities and work with various organizations to act to meet those needs and concerns. Points of responsibility may include participant recruitment, facilitating connections between people with disabilities and adaptive sport opportunities, providing education, awareness, and solutions to organizations. This includes candidates who may be interested in competitive sports and training for advanced competition nationally or internationally, e.g. Paralympics, Deaflympics.
  • Coordination of existing events and tournaments that include Garden City Wheelchair Tennis Classic, Adaptive Golf, and Camps.

Inclusive Arts – Tasks as it relates to General Duties

  • Coordinates Waltons’ vision with Georgia Rehabilitation Institute by advocating for inclusion and identifying opportunities that exist in the community for artists with disabilities.
  • Represents WOIL at community events including chamber events, community fairs, community clubs or organizations, and small business symposiums.

Resource Development: Events and Coordination for Adaptive Sports and Art

  • Act as the designated staff and organizer for the major public and fund events each year that support adaptive sports, e.g. Open House, Under Cover Art, Green Jacket Jersey Game, 5K run, and Harrison Golf Tournament, to include coordination, marketing, and supervision of the events from start to completion. Implements a Cornerstone Giving Campaign for individual donors and small business. 
  • Utilize our funding platform (Harness Giving) to build contributors to programs.
  • Submit a comprehensive development plan that directs the timeline, action items, and activities of each event at least nine months prior to the event to include date of expenses needed, staff /volunteer engagement needed, donor recognition, and post review
  • Support the other teams in organizing events or outreach that promote their programs such as appreciation and recognition events, tournaments, public meetings, forums, focus groups, and organization-wide training.
  • Grant research and application as identified and appropriate for program objectives

*This position includes incentive pay for goals reached in the annual development plan.

Walton Options for Independent Living is a disability led organization that provides resources and advocacy to individuals with disabilities. We are seeking a Youth Transition Coordinator who will work with students and their families, collaborate with their teachers and vocational counselors to develop skills that will support their educational and career goals.

In collaboration with Vocational Rehabilitation and Local Education Agencies, we provide pre-employment transition services to students with disabilities in Georgia and South Carolina schools. We also host programs that engage students such as sports, volunteerism, and other learning opportunities.

  • Access to reliable transportation for traveling in multiple counties is crucial

Duties:

  • Teach self-advocacy and pre-employment transition skills through the delivery of the transition curriculum to designated students with disabilities identified and qualified to participate
  • Work closely one-on-one with individuals each training session to teach a specific skill or set of skills, then evaluate their progress to determine the scope of subsequent lessons
  • Educate and support families of students with disabilities, and educators with appropriate resources
  • Represent best practices in developing policies with school systems that relate to students with disabilities and their right to equal education
  • Collaborate with co-workers, teachers, and state partners on curriculum development and improvements to assure it remains relevant and beneficial to the students’ goals
  • Meet regularly with partners and other team members for lesson development and planning
  • Assist with the development of an ILP (Independent Living Plan) with specific goals and planning to promote consumers’ needs and preferences to work towards their desired independence. Regularly revisit these plan(s) and goal(s), updating as needed and noting progress
  • Document activities and required items in a Management Information System (MIS)
  • Emphasize information and skills related to transition to work or advanced school through a model of peer mentoring with an emphasis on self-advocacy and self-direction
  • Promote self-advocacy by teaching individuals how to access services, assert their rights, obtain funding, and attain their goals
  • Provide PowerPoint presentations, group discussions, and activities on the following topics: Independent Living Skills, Self-Advocacy, Employment Skills, and Post-Secondary Successes
  • Participate in community outreach opportunities such as health, employment, and school resource fairs
  • Provide information and referral services to people with disabilities and the community
  • Conduct empowering activities and transition planning that may include parents, teachers, and other appropriate persons that support the student’s goals and desires
  • Respect the school environment and comply with curriculum and educators’ structure
  • Provide Independent Living disability perspectives through peers and peer groups
  • Provide Assistive Technology demonstrations for students. Alternative format will be provided as needed to make the curriculum and activities accessible and meaningful to persons with varying disabilities
  • Assess individual’s knowledge and skills in areas of assistive technology/ software
  • Establish eligibility for services based upon written objective criteria that are nondiscriminatory and consistent with Walton Options’ mission
  • Update and maintain Independent Living-related services provided and goals met using MIS and other confidential tracking methods, including consumer folders
  • When necessary, travel to consumers’ homes or other community settings to complete a visual assessment of needs throughout the service region or provide services
  • Provide peer support when requested or identified and/or coordinate the use of other peer supporters as appropriate
  • Provide other independent living skills training on an individual or group basis as necessary and requested
  • Participate in systems advocacy activities by presence at public hearings and educating public officials through letter writing or other appropriate means on issues related to independent living
  • Help develop and implement outreach plans and outreach materials
  • Monitor pertinent federal legislation, particularly as it relates to individuals with disabilities (example IDEA, ADA, Fair Housing, Employment)
  • Communicate with representatives of other groups in our service area regarding advocacy-related matters
  • Participate in activities and organizational public events

General Summary:
The Compliance Specialist is responsible for coordinating, administering and supporting activities related to grant and contract reporting. Through data management, reporting, and monitoring, coordinates with other program managers and officers to ensure compliance with all grant guidelines as well as quality, integrity, and efficiency of services. Coordinates database needs for Walton Options. Ensures all services are offered in an inclusive, respectful and professional manner. The Compliance Specialist reports directly to the Executive Director and is required to provide regular reports as required to manage grant activity. Because this position manages confidential information for clients, the Compliance Specialist must demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism.

Education, Knowledge, Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Non-profit management, Business or legal studies preferred
  • Financial Compliance or Relevant certifications in compliance preferred
  • 5 years relevant proven experience.
  • Experience in staff management and training
  • Accounting Experience with Quick Books preferred and knowledge of indirect rates
  • Strong fiscal management and grant reporting experience
  • Understanding of the diversity of federal, state, and private funds with ebb and flow of change

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Grants Management- Assist the Directors to ensure adequate and accurate data collection for grant compliance and reporting
  • Researching and staying up to date with current grant and federal guidelines
  • Advising and training management and colleagues of grant administration policies and procedures, and other related topics
  • Submitting proposals and applications for government grants on behalf of Walton Options as an Authorized Representative
  • Managing various federal entity registration systems to ensure WOIL complies with all registration requirements (SAMs, Grant Solutions, etc.)
  • Drawing-down and invoicing of grant funds both directly from the federal and state governments and from external partners
  • Set up effective systems to track funds and completes month-end, quarterly, and yearly reports
  • Interact with contract managers and funders regarding grants
  • Identifying program announcements and/or solicitations for new government grant funding opportunities
  • Serve as point of contact for funders regarding grant deliverables, funds reporting and monitors from contract managers
  • Assess the company’s operational and strategic performance
  • Align processes, resource-planning and department goals with overall strategies
  • Educate staff and board leadership in support of making effective decisions
  • Implement and manage a quality assurance system to validate reported data as accurate, timely, and relevant to include information from the management information system, the personal activity records, and any other data system we are accountable to
  • Recommend innovative and alternative methods to current operations for improved programmatic effectiveness and efficiency with resources
  • Monitor quality of data collected and coordinates grants management with other staff as appropriate
  • Coordinate with Directors to accurately track financial assistance requests according to grant requirements
  • Coordinate with the auditor and accounting firm to complete required compilations and testing
  • Prepare tracking spreadsheets for each specific grant based upon required reportable data
  • Assure programmatic reports are timely, accurate, and reflective of effort
  • Perform other duties necessary as assigned by the Executive Director

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires sitting for long periods of time, standing, bending, reaching, etc.
  • Ability to travel in the service area (generally 15 % of time max)
  • Offsite locations may include public schools, government buildings, other nonprofits
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds with ease; Anything over 40 pounds requires a team lift
  • MUST be able to successfully pass a Federal Level 3 background check
