Because we offer such a variety of services and resources, there are some common questions that come up on a daily basis. We have organized a few of these below to help you better understand who Walton Options is and what we are able to do for persons with disabilities.
What does Walton Options do?
Walton Options engages in systems advocacy efforts and encourages individuals with disabilities to advocate for themselves. Walton Options strongly believes in the rights of each individual to make decisions, control their lives, and make their own choices, regardless of disability. Walton Options provides information, training, and peer support related to assistive technology, independent living, work re-entry, and personal assistance services. Walton Options also provides options counseling and/or nursing home transition services to individuals who wish to leave the nursing home.
Does it cost to become a consumer of Walton Options?
No, there is no cost to become a consumer, and many of our programs are free of charge, or have minimal co-pay requirements. To begin the process of becoming a consumer, please fill out a
Self-Referral Form, and one of our Information and Referral Specialists will get back to you within three (3) business days. You may also contact the
Walton Options Office Location that serves your area.
How can I become a consumer of Walton Options Services?
You can give us a call at the
office location that serves your area, or fill out the online
Self-Referral form. There are no stipulations to becoming a consumer other than being a person with a disability.
How can I become a volunteer at Walton Options?
Walton Options has several opportunities for people that would like to volunteer with our agency. All volunteers working with consumers must be able to pass a background screening. You may begin by filling out the
Contact Form online. Be sure to select “yes” for the question “Are you interested in volunteering.” You can also call the
office that serves your area to see to see what volunteer opportunities are currently available.
What are your hours of operation and locations?
Walton Options has 3 locations – Augusta, Georgia; North Augusta, South Carolina and Walterboro, South Carolina. You can find our addresses on our
Office Locations Page.
Our typical office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday. Our staff are on full and part-time schedules and we suggest calling ahead for the best way to connect about our services as we are offering both in-person and virtual appointments currently. Also, calling ahead to see if an item from the STAR Program is available or if you would like to make a donation will allow us to serve you more efficiently.
Can Walton Options provide me with housing, transportation, or assistance with paying my bills?
Walton Options is not a residential facility and we do not have transportation services. Generally, we do not have funding for financial support. However there have been some specific funds for Covid related situations and we do help to find resources for these services.
What grants support Walton Options?
Walton Options is supported by grants from the U.S. Administration for Community Living, Department of Health and Human Services, Washington, D.C. 20201. Grantees undertaking projects under government sponsorship are encouraged to express freely their findings and conclusions. Points of view or opinions do not, therefore, necessarily represent official Administration for Community Living policy.
I am impressed with your mission. How can I donate to Walton Options?
There are several ways you can donate to Walton Options. Check out our
Donation page to make a monetary contribution online. Walton Options cannot accept gifts that are intended to influence a position that is contrary to our mission or which would do intended harm to any party.
In addition, the STAR Network Hub is always in need of used durable medical equipment and other items to sanitize, refurbish and redistribute to people with disabilities in our community. Our most needed items at this time include: Manual wheelchairs w/legs; Adult incontinent undergarments, such as diapers and pull ups; Bed pads; Rollators (walkers with wheels and a seat); Shower chairs; Transfer tub benches; Hoyer lifts; Ipads or tablets.
