October 29 – Initiating the SSITWR and SSIMWR Methods?
Question: I am working with a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiary who just began working. I think she would be a great fit for the SSI telephone wage reporting (SSITWR) or the SSI mobile wage reporting (SSIMWR) methods. Should I tell her how to use those options or should I direct her to Social Security to get that information?
Answer: SSI beneficiaries should report new employment information to Social Security prior to using the telephone or wage reporting methods. Social Security wants to ensure the beneficiary will be able to report using the automated wage reporting tools, issue training packages when applicable, advise the beneficiary of the potential effects of wages and various work incentives, and remind the beneficiary of the reporting responsibilities.
