My Life, My Way – Youth Transition
Thursday, July 11, 2019 – 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
So you’re ready for the next phase of your life but not exactly sure what that means? Whether it is moving from high school to employment, continuing/post-secondary education, living on your own, and/or discovering the path to your social and recreational self, My Life, My Way is the perfect place to start.
Our introductory training is designed to start a dialogue and share information on best practices as well as tips to help young individuals with disabilities live their lives their way. They will learn when a personal approach is taken, transitioning to the next step is an inclusive planning process that is driven by setting realistic goals and objectives. Learn more about:

- The importance of preparation prior to transition
- How to utilize and maximize your circle of supports/relationships/resources
- Positive approaches to dealing with stress during transition
Let Your Voice Be Heard – Self Advocacy Life Skills Training
Thursday, July 18, 2019 – 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
You have rights and a voice – it’s time you knew more about them! Our Self-Advocacy Class is designed to teach you more about different types of advocacy, and how you can advocate for yourself and others. You will learn what the Americans with Disabilities Act is as well as gain a better understanding of disability rights and laws locally and on state and national levels. Additionally, you will learn how to access advocacy resources and effect self-advocacy in the job market and in your community.
Walton Options will partner up with Rev-Up the vote Georgia to utilize the Voter Disability Awareness Toolkit for distributing resources on the awareness of voting. Walton Option staff and volunteers will be assisting individuals in registering to vote throughout the week and stressing the importance of bringing others to register. (This will occur from July 15-18.)
Get You Back to Work Orientation – Ticket to Work
Thursday, August 8, 2019 – 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
Our Gaining Preparedness Skills (GPS) are designed for individuals with disabilities interested in seeking knowledge, confidence and the resources for pursuing employment. During the orientation introduction, you will learn about:
- An overview of Walton Options Services
- Employment Readiness Training Information
- The Ticket to Work Program
- Understanding the needs of Employers
- Establishing an individual work plan
- Including yourself in the workplace
- Empowering yourself through motivation
- The impact of work on Social Security Benefits
- Increasing your opportunity to obtain gainful employment successfully
Journey to Financial Independence – Job Search Training
Thursday, August 22, 2019 – 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The job search learning session aims to help individuals with disabilities prepare to explore employment opportunities and obtain employment skills. This training focuses on preparation, job search techniques, and provides options for best practices to help jump-start the choice to obtain viable sustainable employment.

Mind Your Awareness – Self Awareness and Empowerment

The purpose of this training is to provide individuals with an opportunity to learn more about their personality and style, bringing meaning to the word empowerment for an engaging platform of positive self-awareness. Self-awareness helps with dealing with the emotional reaction by understanding vulnerabilities and re-directing energy for confidence that builds tenacity for everyday life situations as it relates to social, home, employment, and recreation.
Health & Wellness – Living Your Best Life
Thursday, September 26, 2019 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
The goal of this health and wellness class is to encourage individuals to enhance their personal and physical well-being, through increased awareness of the fundamentals of health, fitness, and nutrition. In this class, individuals will learn:
- The importance of eating healthy and physical fitness
- Techniques to build upon your ability to become healthy
- Techniques to build upon your ability to remain healthy
