Programs & Opportunities

Supported by Fund Development

Camp To Be Independent, our camp for persons ages 8 to 21 with a disability resulting from a traumatic brain injury.

At Camp TBI, kids with traumatic brain injuries can just be kids. Camp TBI is an annual weeklong, spend-the-night camp offered at no cost for children and young adults (ages 10-21) with disabilities resulting from a traumatic brain injury, including: Injuries at birth, Stroke, Brain tumors, and Trauma.

Launched in 2000 as part of its mission to provide opportunities for young adults and children with acquired disabilities in this region, the camp provides a safe, supervised environment, with a 1:1 or 1:2 counselor ratio where kids can just have fun. Those who need medical support are also accommodated.

Camp TBI is held annually at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia, a fully accessible campsite featuring spacious cabins, gym and amphitheater, medical lodge, media center with a teaching center and photography room, an arts center for dance and drama, a library, arts and crafts building, an accessible playground and pool, riding ring, biking paths, climbing wall, zip line and more.

Walton Family Weekend, held at Camp Twin Lakes in Rutledge, Georgia, is designed to provide opportunities for families to engage in recreational activities in an accommodating environment whereas they might typically experience a physical barrier in other places that are not accessible. Families also get to interact with other attendees and peers where they often bond and grow friendships. It is a relaxed time where everyone can participate at their leisure and possibly experience their first opportunity to zip line, climb ropes, paddle boat, or other numerous outdoor and indoor activities.

Space is limited! Walton Family Weekend is open to families in the CSRA where either the parent or the children of the parent have a physical disability. Children aged 6 to 18 are supervised by their parent or guardian who must be in attendance.

Adaptive Sports & Tournaments

We have opportunities where anyone of any age can participate, make new friends and learn new skills! Our adaptive sports, leisure, and recreation programs are led by trained volunteers thanks to community support. Options include adaptive golf, wheelchair racquet sports, and, thanks to our partnership with Catalyst Sports, adaptive biking and kayaking.

We are thrilled to collaborate with Catalyst Sports and the Georgia Rehabilitation Institute to expand adaptive sports opportunities in the CSRA. If you’re interested in adaptive kayaking, cycling, or mountain biking, you’ve found the right place. Whether you’re an experienced athlete or trying something new, we invite you to participate in this exciting initiative. Venture into the great outdoors, embrace individual strengths, and celebrate the transformative impact of sports.
